Green Schools Update by Paul Donohoe & Adam Cleary
At the moment, we are putting our Green Schools application together. We will be handing it in in March. We have been working on ways to get our green flag including composting. We put organic waste bins in every classroom and in the staff room. The waste is collected by children from fourth class every day. We have filled two compost bins already and are hoping to fill a lot more! Our new bins have a spinner so that organic waste can break down more quickly than in a normal compost bin. Next week in our section of the newsletter we will talk about our attempts to use less paper in our school.

Icy Weather
On frosty mornings, the grounds tend to be slippery, particularly the red tarmacadam area in front of the school. It is not possible to grit the entire schoolyard. The gritting is concentrated on the paths. In the interest of safety, we would therefore urge you to use the paths and to encourage your children to do likewise.

Trainee Teachers
It is common practice in schools within commuting distance of the Colleges of Education to facilitate teaching practice for trainee teachers at intervals during the school year. The trainee teachers work in classrooms under the supervision of the class teachers.

Engineering Week of Wonder
Engineering Week of Wonder takes place 19 - 23 February. There are many free events organised throughout Dublin. Log on to www.weekofwonder.ie for more information.
