Junior Infants
From next Monday, 17 September, Junior Infants will be on full days, i.e. 08.30am to 1.10pm.

The School Day
Please try to ensure that your child arrives on time (8.30am) each day. Children who line up with their class are supervised by their class teacher from 8.30am. Children who are late are not under adult supervision until they actually reach their classrooms.

The period between 8.30 and 8.50 is an important part of the school day. All doors will remain open until 8.40am. If you arrive between 8.40 and 8.50am, please use either of the two doors at the left (yard) side of the building (Strawberry Beds Door and Porterstown Door). If you arrive after 8.50am, please use the main entrance, as you must sign your child's name into the Sign-In Book.

In order to minimise disruption to the class, you should not accompany your child into the classroom in the event that he/she is late. If you need to speak with the Class Teacher, Andrea will be happy to arrange a meeting for you.

Tesco "Sport for Schools & Clubs"
The Tesco Sport for Schools Promotion has started again. We will be taking part this year. One token is given for every €10 spent in Tesco Stores. There will be a collection box in each classroom. As the counting of tokens is such an enormous job, we would request that tokens be sent into school on Fridays only and in bundles of 50. Last year, the school collected enough tokens for rainbow foam balls, thrown down spots, First Hockey kit, Tennis starter pack and foam javelins which were all put to good use during PE classes.

Flora Womens' Mini Marathon
A sincere thanks to all who sponsored Orla Crossen last year in the Mini Marathon. The total collected for the school was €925.

PE Timetable
The PE Timetable will not be available for a number of weeks. In the interim, your child's teacher will schedule PE sessions on different days until the formal timetable comes into operation.

Road Safety
We are delighted to see so many children cycling to school. However, in the interest of all children's safety it is very important that cyclists are familiar with the Rules of the Road. We would also like to remind all cyclists/scooters that they must dismount at the outer school gates. This request extends to parents and younger siblings also and is made in the interest of safety.

We are in negotiations with Fingal County Council to try and procure another Traffic Warden. In the meantime, we would ask you not to cross the road on the roundabout and to use the services of the two Traffic Wardens.

School Choir
Choir will resume at 2.10pm to 3.10pm on Friday 21 September. All children from 2nd to 5th class are welcome. Children need to line up on Line 1 at 2.10pm and wait for Ms Meade to bring them up to Purple Room 1.

Green Schools
Car Free Day: As we are now focussing on the Energy Unit of our Green School Programme, we would like to invite everybody to mark European Car Free Day (Saturday 22 September) by leaving their cars at home on Friday 21 September. Please encourage your children to walk/cycle/come on scooters to school that day. Let's see if we can do better than last year!
Batteries & Mobile Phones: A reminder to recycle old batteries and mobile phones by placing them in the receptacles at Reception.
Recycling Week: The first week of October is Recycling Week. Some competitions are planned for 1st to 5th class. More details next week.

Extra Curricular Activities
For your convenience, this year children from First Class upwards outside the Diswellstown Door at 2.10pm where the teacher hosting the activity will meet them. They should be collected from Line 1 by parent/guardian after the activity. (Diswellstown Door is the Tigers Entrance Door in the Main School Yard.)

Swimming Lessons
Swimming Lessons will commence on Friday 5 October at the National Aquatic Centre at the following times: 4.30pm - 5.15pm, 5.15pm - 5.55pm, 6.00pm - 6.40pm (these are all 40 minute classes and run for 10 weeks).
