School Reports

School reports will be sent out this week. For children from 1st class up, the report includes STen scores which are one small indicator of your child’s progress. Over emphasising scores causes anxiety. Children should not be discussing their STens with peers at school. If you intend to share your child’s standardised test results with him/her, we implore you to wait until after the school closes for summer holidays.

4th Class Write-a-Book Project 2016
This year, 4th class children took part once again in the annual Write-a-Book Project - a partnership venture between Dublin West Education Centre and schools in its catchment area. This worthwhile project enables primary school children to become real authors as they create their own books by actively engaging in the processes of writing, editing, illustrating and presenting their work to a wide audience. The children's books were submitted to a partner school where they were reviewed and judged by other children of the same age. Well done to all those who took part and special congratulations to those who received special merits! Hopefully, the children will treasure their books for many years to come!

"It was really exciting to go to the Write a Book presentation. My rosette is very beautiful. It was such a wonderful experience." Oscar McMahon

"The Write a Book ceremony was very exciting, I was proud to be there!" Sofia Calef

'I went to Dublin West Education Centre, I felt happy when I got the merit prize.' Amukela Sibanda

'We got a rosette, I had a great time and really enjoyed it' Rija Ashan

Summer Reading Club

What better way to pass some of those lazy summer days than reading a book? This summer, we invite all senior infants- fifth class pupils, to participate in our summer reading club. All children in senior infants- fifth will receive a reading log. Simply read, record and return it to school at the start of the new school year. We hope to have some prizes and all those who make a good effort over the summer, will be entered in the draw. Forms will also be downloadable from the school website. Happy reading!

Second-hand School Books

If anybody has second hand school books that you no longer need, the school would be delighted to accept these to support our Book Scheme.  Boxes will be left on each corridor and one at reception from Monday 27 June.  Please do not include workbooks that have been written on or textbooks that are in poor condition

Lost Property

There is a large volume of Lost Property items at the school, everything from gloves to coats! These will be put on display outside the school on Monday 27, Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 June.  Anything not claimed by 29 June will be donated to St Vincent de Paul.

Sixth Class Children (current classes)

Attached to this email is a brief information leaflet from the HSE Immunisation Department.

Tracksuit Bottoms

The school holds a stock of tracksuit bottoms in all sizes (Junior Infants to Sixth Class) for use for “accidents”. Children borrow these as the need arises. They are asked to returned them.  However, some have not come back! If your child was given a tracksuit bottom on loan this year, we would be grateful if it could be returned before 28 June.  Also, if you child/children have outgrown their tracksuit bottoms and no longer need them, we would be happy to accept them for our stock.

SPNS Sponsored iWalk

Thank you all most sincerely for supporting our Parents’ Association, Sponsored iWalk last Thursday 16 June. The response was phenomenal! Children, staff, parents and grandparents all reported that they thoroughly enjoyed the fun and energetic morning, including the delicious treat that each class got afterwards of fresh strawberries, oranges and watermelons! Thanks to you all, our children can now look forward to using their new iPads next year and for years to come. Well done everyone!
